Michigan — Will It Become Another Case of Brown vs. Board of Education?

Please see the following press statement issued by Detroit Branch NAACP President Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony regarding the status of Detroit Public Schools.

“Sixty-two years ago, there were those who asserted that the system of racial separation, masquerading as providing separate but equal treatment of both white and black Americans, instead was one that perpetuated inferior accommodations, services, financing, and treatment for black Americans. The infamous case of Brown vs. The Board of Education found that separate but equal was indeed separate and unequal. It determined that separating public schools for black and white students, along racial lines, to be unconstitutional. Have we not learned anything in the last sixty-two years here in the state of Michigan? Is Michigan the new home of Topeka, Kansas, South Carolina, Virginia, Delaware, or Washington DC?”

The Michigan House Must Act to Support the Detroit Public School System Now!

Detroit Branch NAACP President Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony issued a press statement urging immediate action by the Michigan House of Representatives to support Detroit Public Schools.

“It is indeed unfortunate that we find ourselves once again at the threshold of deciding whether or not we will work to sustain the future of our children. The question before us is one of preserving the posterity of our state and nation, or whether or not we will allow them to continue to twist in the winds of uncertainty and insecurity.”
