Please see the attached press statement given by Detroit Branch NAACP President Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony regarding the Detroit Public Schools Community District School Board Superintendent search.
DETROIT – The Detroit Public Schools Community District continues to face challenges as well as opportunities to both stabilize and move our school district to higher academic heights. It is a school district that has been plagued by financial, academic, and personnel obstacles. The newly elected Board of Education is to be commended for its efforts to bring to solvency, as well as to re-establish the school district of Detroit into a first class, academically proficient, and student- learning center for the people in this community.
The Coalition for the Future of Detroit Schoolchildren released its report and recommendations for improving all Detroit schools on Monday, March 30, during a press event held at Fellowship Chapel. Detroit Branch NAACP President, Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, serves as one of the co-chairs for the coalition. The coalition met for approximately 100 days to create a comprehensive plan that will imake quality schools for all Detroit children.
