DETROIT – The Detroit Public Schools Community District continues to face challenges as well  as opportunities to both stabilize and move our school district to higher academic heights. It is a school district that has been plagued by financial, academic, and personnel obstacles. The newly elected Board of Education is to be commended for its efforts to bring to solvency, as well as to re-establish the school district of Detroit into a first class, academically proficient, and student- learning center for the people in this community.

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren to Serve As Keynote Speaker for 62nd Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner


The Detroit Branch NAACP held a press conference on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 to announce the Keynote Speaker and Awardees for its 62nd Annual Fight For Freedom Fund Dinner that will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Cobo Conference Center located at 1 Washington Blvd in Detroit.  The press conference was led by Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, President, Detroit Branch NAACP.  Rev. Anthony announced U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren as this year’s Keynote Speaker.

In addition to announcing Senator Warren as the Keynote, Rev. Anthony also announced the following:
