On Tuesday, January 14 the Detroit Branch NAACP held it’s latest Allies, Issues and Action Meeting. Our special invited guest was community activist Ron Scott. Scott spoke on the recent lawsuit filed in Federal Court against 12 auto insurance and rental car companies. The plaintiffs are compromised of African American, Arab American, and Latino collision shop owners and customers. One of the claims in the lawsuit is that the 12 auto insurance and rental car companies practice redlining. Attorney Charles Busse, who is representing one of the plaintiffs, spoke at the meeting as well. Busse states that when minority customers have to file an insurance claim if they use minority owned collision shop owners they are sent to a special investigative unit because of a presumption of fraud. The lawsuit was in filed in the United States District Court — Eastern District of Michigan.
The next Allies, Issues & Action Meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at 10:00 A.M.
