From August 1 to September 16, America’s Journey for Justice – an historic 860 mile march from Selma, Alabama to Washington D.C. – will mobilize activists and advance a focused national advocacy agenda that protects the rights of every American to a fair criminal justice system, uncorrupted and unfettered access to the ballot box, sustainable jobs with a living wage, and equitable public education.

The Detroit Branch NAACP held a press conference today, Thursday,
August 6, 2015, to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act (VRA). Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony, President, Detroit Branch NAACP was joined by Congressman John Conyers, Jr; Duron Marshall, Chief of Staff, Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence; Samia Hamid, Field Director, Arab American Civil Rights League; Mary Carmen Munoz, Operations Manager, La SED; Stephanie Lopez Gilmore, Consortium of Hispanic Agencies; Michael Steinberg, Legal Director, ACLU Michigan and Yvonne White, President, Michigan State Conference NAACP to champion the VRA.
