Detroit Branch NAACP Leads the Way During the NAACP’s America’s Journey for Justice Advocacy Day


On Wednesday, September 16 the Detroit Branch NAACP participated in the America’s Journey for Justice Legislative Advocacy Day in our Nation’s Capitol.  The day began with a rally at Upper Senate Park to culminate the 1,000 mile march that the NAACP began on August 1 in Selma, Alabama.  Upon conclusion of the rally the Detroit Branch NAACP delegation met with U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters;  U.S. House of Representatives members Brenda Lawrence and John Conyers Jr.; National NAACP Chairman Roslyn M. Brock, NAACP President and CEO Cornell William Brooks and NAACP Washington Bureau Director Hilary O. Shelton.  Congresswoman Lawrence provided lunch for the Detroit Branch NAACP delegation.

Additionally, during the Legislative Advocacy Day several issue briefs were presented. NAACP members across the country are asked to seek support for these pieces of legislation from their respective members in Congress.  The proposed pieces of legislation are:
