Today at the Allies, Issues, and Action meeting Special Agent in Charge Paul Abbate discussed his new role at the FBI and the commitment they have to helping reduce crime in the City of Detroit. Mr. Abbate joins the Detroit community after working in counter terrorism at the National FBI headquarters in Washington, DC before receiving this opportunity. Currently, he oversees 11 offices across the State of Michigan with nearly 600 employees. He has been employed by the FBI for 18 years.
He expressed the investigative priorities of the agency which are counter terrorism, counter intelligence and crime reduction. He shared that counter terrorism is number one priority of the FBI especially after the tragic events of September 11. In the past, the FBI has been very reactive to situations, however now they are working to be proactive in order to prevent incidents from occurring.
He also discussed the new Detroit One partnership that involves the FBI, U.S. Attorney General Office and other state agencies. The goal of the program is to reduce violent crime in the City of Detroit. Last week they commemorated one year anniversary of the program.
