The Detroit NAACP Youth Council has been at the forefront of youth leadership since its inception in the 1900’s. Home to the largest youth unit in the Midwest, the award-winning Detroit NAACP Youth Council continuously provides strategic planning, and implements the solutions gathered to address the problems facing the youth of our community. Currently the Detroit Youth Council is working on a strategic plan to amend gun laws that will protect our youth on the streets.

This highly motivated group of middle and high school students meet every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 6:00PM at the Detroit Branch NAACP office (8220 Second Ave. Detroit, MI 48202). It is never to early to get involved!

  1. I would like to become a member-how do I do this and what time does the youth council end on each 1st and 3rd Wednesday?

    • Hello Victoria and thank you for contacting the Detroit Branch NAACP. Our Youth Council meets every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:00PM – 7:30PM. We invite you to come out to join us. Currently we are preparing for the 50th Anniversary of the Martin Luther King Jr., Freedom Walk. The event will be held June 22, 2013 and we will meet at the intersection of Warren & Forest at 9:00A.M. There will be a youth focused event on Friday, June 21, 2013 as well. Dr. King stated long ago, β€œAn injustice done anywhere is a threat to justice every where.” Every first Wednesday of the month from 10:00A.M. – 3:00P.M., we offer our Ask the Lawyer Program. The program allows for a free 15 minute consultation with attorney regarding your legal matter. In addition, we partner with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights to address complaints of discrimination. For more information please contact our office at 313-871-2087.
